THE TASK
This year’s annual theme of IBA’27 is dwelling. Deriving from this topic, the IBA’27-School will be concerned with minimal housing on the edge of Stuttgart.
Minimal dwelling as urban practice
We will brighten the edge of Stuttgart with this IBA’27-School, exploring the diverse, heterogenous neighbourhood and landscape of Stuttgart’s district Rot/Böckinger Straße.
The IBA’27-School asks for visionary approaches towards minimal dwelling, neighbourhood ties and concepts for existing and future communities. We will work on questions concerning minimal requirements for living and the effects of the reduction of private space on neighbourhoods; density and proximity as well as the (re) activation of commons will be discussed.
Crossing scales and disciplines, we will be working in international teams on interdisciplinary tasks concerning this very special surrounding. In workshops, lectures and city tours there will be time to explore Stuttgart and get to know people, perceptions and ideas from all over the world.
And finally, it will all come together in an exhibition: landscape concepts, neighbourhood strategies, dwelling constellations – proposing a vision for life on the edge.
