the submitted ibaʼ27-project

Size: 4.7 ha
Ca. 750 residents
Ca. 300 dwellings
Developer: SWSG – Stuttgarter Wohnungs- und Städtebaugesellschaft
Project partner: City of Stuttgart

The area Böckinger Straße is one of the largest housing development areas in Stuttgart. The challenge is here to design a neighborhood for a diverse set of residents in an architecturally qualified density with urban qualities.

The area is developed by the SWSG (Stuttgarter Wohnungs- und Städtebaugesellschaft/ Stuttgart Housing and urban development association). The SWSG, as affiliate of the city of Stuttgart has the duty to build and rent subsidised, reasonably priced housing in Stuttgart – also here in Böckingerstraße.

The main goal of the project (as an IBAʼ27 project) is the development of an urban quarter, with strong ties into the neighborhood and landscape. And, furthermore, the spatial integration of the garden and greenhouses, and, in social terms, the integration of the residents of the Imanuel Grözinger house, who should partly move into the new built area.

The quarter is going to be built according to social housing standards (e.g. flat sizes), but 30 units will experiment with new typologies, usage-neutral floor plans, new ways of building. As well, throughout the whole newly build area new ways of building processes and building materials regarding low-tech will be implemented.
